It happened after a long day of last minute preparations for our trip the following evening. Of course, Rev tacked on one last task to our list - take a picture with a view to complete his late Christmas present. I say its not necessary, I can wait until our trip is over for the scrapbook. We'll have much better views in Iceland. But he insists and he's persistent. So I navigated us to this "secret destination." We found ourselves parked near the marina of Liberty State Park. It was freezing but, we made it just in time to catch the sunset over the New York City skyline. After a few pictures with the GoPro, we take a seat and start to discuss our plans for Iceland. Somehow he seemingly transitions into a story about penguins and I think to myself "this is happening … and really penguins?." But I listen and laugh because it's his story to tell and it ends in a beautiful way … "When a male penguin falls in love with a female penguin, he searches the entire beach to find the perfect pebble to present to her. If she accepts his pebble they then become mates for life." And down on one knee, eye level to each other, he says "And this is my pebble for you, Will you marry me?" I'm sure it would've been the brightest pebble any penguin would see. How could I not say yes. Yes! And with impromptu celebrations with family and friends we celebrated our engagement surrounded with love, excitement and adventure awaiting - a wedding to plan and Iceland the next day. It was a day & trip to remember.
